The new millennium provided me with some crazy adventures. The two biggest psychic events in the years in and around 2000 were my prophetic dreams and what I can only describe as time travel.
On my way home from work in 2004, I managed to take a trip back in time…as you do.
I hadn’t planned to time travel that day (or any day for that matter) but the universe had other ideas. I was quite tired and sort of day dreaming my way through the crowds. I’m sure you’ve experienced autopiloting yourself home after a hard days work. I was standing at a set of lights waiting for them to change. The lights changed and the crowd and I went to move forward.
That one time I went to 1850’s America
In that instant I found myself in what I’m pretty sure is 1850’s America. It was very dusty and nothing but dirt around. I was in a smallish town where:
- all the buildings were made of timber
- the dirt road was very wide with quite a few horse drawn wagons/carriages
- some buildings had a verandah/porch out the front with horses tied up near water troughs near by
- there were a couple saloons and brothels
It was an odd experience because it was like I was riding inside someone else’s head and looking out through their eyes.
I was a young lady – maybe 18 – walking with my girl friend arm in arm laughing and chattering. We were walking along one of the wooden plank areas out the front of some of the shops.
Looking down I saw that I was wearing a full blueish grey frilly dress with long sleeves and buttons all the way down from my neck to my waist. I also had black shoes with a small heel . The dress was grubby but that didn’t seem to bother me. I could tell the shoes were too small for me because my feet hurt terribly.
Oh the smell….
What really struck me was the smell of the experience.
This may not mean much to you but in this lifetime I have a sensitive sense of smell – in particular to do with body odour. Not only did I smell, but my friend did too.
I remember thinking ‘dear god I stink’ but the me I was riding in and my friend didn’t seem at all bothered. In fact there was a moment where I thought about deodorant but the person I was riding in got confused about that thought. It hit me then that deodorant as I know it, wasn’t invented yet. More interesting was that it confirmed my suspicion that I was a ‘guest’ of sorts in someone else. And I certainly didn’t want to freak my host out so I shut up so to speak.
It was then I was over come by another smell. Horse manure and urine. The air was thick with a urea-like smell and just a general horsey smell. I was so fouled by the smell and all the sounds that I didn’t notice we’d come to a crossing in the road. I stepped out and almost got hit by a passing horse wagon which snapped me awake and also sent me back to 2004.
Back in 2004
And there I was, just about to take my first step crossing at the lights with the rest of the crowd. It was as if no time had passed in 2004 but I had been in 1850’s for a good 10 mins. Isn’t that basically time travel…of sorts?
As I crossed the road, what I was left with was the smell of urea lingering in my nostrils, the sound of carriages in my ears and the distinct clear as day memory of the place. The experience had been so visceral.
Walking to the bus, I realised I was amused by the experience. Although I was surprised it had happened, it didn’t scare me. I remember thinking “well that was interesting” having a bit of a chuckle, and I went home.
The other thing that struck me about that experience was just how romanticised we make history out to be. Somehow the stories of years gone by, rarely talk about the realities of hygiene.
My thoughts on this experience
To this day I have no idea what that experience was.
- Did I slip into an Alpha state and so was easily able to jump to a previous life – a moment of time travel?
- Was it a gap between the two realities I stumbled into – an alternative time line?
- Did I move through that persons spirit that was for some reason where I was and I merely experienced a memory?
- Was it just my subconscious trying to tell me something like in a dream state?
As far as I can tell it was the first. I was so brain dead that most likely I was in an Alpha state and so jumped effortlessly to another life where there was a message for me. Some people also call it a quantum jump or quantum shift. But I’m not sure that explains the feeling of being a ‘guest’ inside someone else.
Years later, my friend Julie told me her theory: that I was there to experience my sore feet as that was a sign of being afraid to move forward. Which I was at the time in this lifetime, but just didn’t see it at the time.
I’ve found this image on the internet which reminds me of that time period to help give an example of what I’m referring to. The city in the image seems much more civilised though from the place I was in. My town was smaller and rougher and there were no trees. The men were rougher – more cowboy type than gentlemen.
With any luck I’ll have more time travelling journeys.
